As a resident of Zürich, I couldn't resist visiting the recent exhibition at the House of Switzerland Milano, which celebrated Swiss design under the theme "JOY" during Milano Design Week 2024. Organized by Pro Helvetia and Presence Switzerland, the exhibition showcased a vibrant array of creations from young designers, studios, brands, and universities from Switzerland.With 23 projects interpreting the theme of JOY in innovative ways, the exhibition turned into the dynamic experience of Swiss design, highlighting its creativity and curiosity as drivers of societal change. What's particularly exciting is the emphasis on joyful interaction with design objects. From throwing balls to swinging on swings, we were invited to experience the creations in the most fun way possible. This playful aspect not only adds to the enjoyment of the exhibition but also underscores the transformative power of joy in design.House of Switzerland Milano, a collaborative project, serves as a platform to showcase Swiss design's tradition, innovation, and emerging talents to international audiences. By fostering collaboration and increasing visibility within the global design community, it aims to boost Swiss design on the international stage. I think it worked pretty well.
